RV battery and solar shopping checklist: ask these questions first
A practical RV battery, inverter, power station and solar shopping checklist grounded in your daily energy budget.
commercial research · transparent planning
Turn calculator results into comparable product requirements. A shortlist is useful only when each seller supplies the same facts.
Capacity: nameplate versus usable
Record Wh, voltage, chemistry, documented allowed discharge and actual expected Wh delivered. A generic 100Ah label cannot answer how long your fridge or router will run without a duty cycle and loss assumption.
Output: the appliance must start
Check both continuous and surge output where applicable, approved connector types, DC output limits and inverter efficiency. Do not assume every device with the same wattage label has interchangeable behavior.
Charging: plan the full pathway
Check allowed solar inputs, battery charging limits, AC charging, vehicle charging and whether simultaneous sources are supported. Separate marketing charge-time claims from test conditions and your own sun hours.
Support: preserve evidence
Save versioned manufacturer specifications, return policy, warranty territory, service location and delivery cost. We do not publish a 'best' ranking without independent, reproducible product measurements.
